Apex Canopy

Todd began skydiving in 1984, started rigging 2 years later, then "jumped" into B.A.S.E. in 1987. By the end of that year, he earned BASE #169, became an FAA rigger and was awarded his first instructional rating. Along with his brother Troy he founded T&T Rigging and began manufacturing the first BASE specific harness/container systems and accessories.

Marta moved to the US from Brazil at age 20. After only 30 skydives, she discovered BASE while it was still in its infancy. There was no BASE specific gear, and in 1988 she began building BASE gear, relying on her skydiving gear and BASE jumping knowledge and experience to make appropriate gear for the sport, and Vertigo was born.

FOX xs

Apex FLik Base Canopy

Description:

If your looking for BASE specific performance, then look no further.  The FLiK parachute (introduced in June 2002) has consistent openings, reliable heading control, perfect glide, with incredible flare and landing performance.

The FLiK is available in 11 sizes ranging from 182 square feet to 354 square feet. FLiK options include variable Vtec, Multi, HTS and custom colors.

The FLiK BASE canopy, with an aspect ration of 2.08/1, was designed to provide better glide and flare performance over its predecessor the FOX. The FLiK's performance has proven itself around the world.

The FLiK is well suited for a wide range and types of BASE jumping.  Slider up the openings are positive and consistent.  Slider removed (or down) the openings are brisk and reliable.  The FLiK is constructed with spanwise reinforcement at the B, C, and D lines.  The bridle attachment is designed to handle the harsh treatment imposed by over sized BASE pilot chutes.

The FLiK can be outfitted with Vtec (bottom surface vent).

Another option is HTS (Hybrid Top Surface).  This option places ZP fabric on the forward 1/3 of the top surface.  HTS provides better lift, most noticeable during a flare.

Multi (multiple bridle attachment) is yet one more option.  The Multi provides the best lift capabilities of any bridle attachment.  The Multi use a total of 4 or 2 (new modified Multi) lifting points instead of just 1 bridle attachment.  The Multi reduces center cell strip a common issue with Tail Pocket deployed square parachutes.

The FLiK comes standard with a Tail Gate (anti line-over device) , mesh slider (large hole or small hole), stainless steel connector links, Tail Pocket, Tail Gate Friendly Lines (colored to help set the Tail Gate), and custom colors.

FLiK / FOX UltraLite

Description:

NOW AVAILABLE IN BLACK!!!!

Same great canopy platforms but with an incredible reduction in both weight and volume.  Our studies have shown that this fabric, combined with our tried-and-true BASE specific canopy designs, is suitable for both slider-up and slider-off jumping.

Our Ultralite fabric meets or exceeds traditional 0-3 (F-111) standards in all strength test.

UltraLite fabric is NOW AVAILABLE IN BLACK!!!!

Other available colors are white and gray.

The UltraLite canopy packs about 28% smaller than one built the same size using the traditional 0-3 fabric and construction style. That's the equivalent of downsizing 6 sizes. Not only is the UltraLite pack volume reduced but weight is reduced as well.  Weight on the UltraLite is reduced about 20% when compared to a standard built canopy.

The UltraLite can be packed into the Apex TLs or a Summit.

The FLiK UltraLite and FOX UltraLite are setting the bar high when it comes to ultra light canopy design.

FLIK / FOX LV

Description:

Do you want a canopy that FLIES GREAT and has LESS VOLUME? Those features and more are found in the FLiK LV and FOX LV BASE parachute

Details:

Order Forms (Link Coming Soon...)

The FLiK LV and FOX LV BASE canopies use the same traditional fabric (0-3 cfm aka F-111) but the reinforcement scheme has been redesigned to reduce bulk without sacrificing performance.

The original FOX and FLIK BASE parachutes were over built using readily available reinforcement tapes. The LV canopies use a lighter tape (commonly found in skydiving reserves) to provide most of the interior reinforcement on the load bearing ribs and bottom surface span wise. All leading edge (nose) tape remain unchanged to provide durability where it is needed. Tape was removed in areas the original canopies where overbuilt including the D-line span wise, stabilizers and two locations on the top surface.

Bulk has also been reduced in the lines. The Lite uses 400 pound Dacron line (instead of the 525). All of these changes create a BASE parachute that packs about 12% smaller and weighs about 8% less. Some will choose the FLiK LV or FOX LV because it "Flies Great" while others because it's "Less Volume" We think it's a little of both.

Atair Canopies

Troll DW

Troll is a 7-cell low aspect ratio canopy, built from highest quality materials, and is heavily reinforced in critical high stress areas, such as suspension line attachments and bridle attachment point, enabling it to withstand the challenging requirements of modern day BASE-jumping.

Troll airfoil provides comfortable openings, excellent canopy flight and control, and precision landings. Troll's unique aerofoil is slightly tapered on the upper surface, resulting in a more efficient airfoil with increased lift and decreased drag.

All Troll canopies have Dacron lines and a unique tail pocket design that allows the lines to be securely stowed. All Troll canopies are made of F111 fabric. As an option, Troll canopies can be ordered with the MDV system. The choice depends on the type of jumps you are planning to do (for further information please see the MDV system explanation).

MDV System

Atair aerodynamics has always been at the cutting edge of parachute design and technology, and this has become very clear with the introduction of the Mono Directional Valve (MDV) system technology.

The MDV system is a unique design that allows the air to flow into the canopy during pressurization at the opening stage, and also during deep brake descent. In normal flight, valves are closed and are not disturbing the internal airflow inside the canopy.

In its standard form, Troll is already a very stable canopy. The MDV Troll offers additional performance by increasing the canopy flight envelope in the deep brakes regime, before reaching the stall. The canopy has a great flare both in its standard form and equipped with the MDV technology.

When making a jump with the slider up, the canopy will inflate a bit faster than normal, but the true benefits of MDV technology are fully exploited on slider down jumps. During deployment, MDV technology is providing superior canopy pressurization, reducing the amount of altitude required for canopy inflation and allowing the jumper almost immediate control of the canopy.

If Troll MDV is to be used for terminal jumps, it is recommended to switch to a slow slider in order to reduce canopy stress during the opening, without compromising consistency.

Starting from 2013, it is also possible to order the MDV system on 1, 3 or 5 cells (regardless of the option selected, the center cell will always be included for the benefit of inflation from the center, resulting in on-heading deployment). This option will meet the requirements for different sub-terminal speeds. Lightweight material is now also an option on Troll.

Available Sizes

185, 205, 225, 245, 265, 285, 305

OSP

The OSP is a BASE canopy optimized for sub-terminal jumps (delays up to 8 seconds). Canopy design has been optimized for slider down or slider up low altitude jumps. Like all Atair products, the OSP canopy is reinforced in the critical areas. The MDV system is standard on the canopy.

In comparison to the Troll canopy, OSP differs in the following areas:

  • faster openings due to better canopy pressurization during opening
  • lower flying speed (horizontal and vertical)
  • improved performance during deep brake flight – increased control range and better response to control inputs
  • This canopy is ideal for jumps with delays up to 8 seconds. It can also be used for jumps with long delays reaching terminal velocity, but a slow slider is strongly recommended otherwise openings may become uncomfortable!!!

The SLAT system provides:

  • Reduction of canopy forward speed during the opening stage, allowing more time to correct your heading with the risers during low altitude jumps in close proximity to the objects.
  • Improved deep brakes flight, with crisp toggle response and reduced canopy inertia during steep approaches, enabling easy and accurate, on the spot landings in constricted areas.

SLAT Technology, Atair is the only manufacturer that uses this technology on BASE canopies

Peak

Atair is proud to introduce PEAK, a brand new ultra-lightweight BASE canopy specifically built for the most demanding wingsuit flyers and trackers.

PEAK is the first BASE canopy that really flies like a sport skydiving main. Its new airfoil, with innovative ZP leading edge transforms the canopy, giving great all round performance and a vastly superior flare.

As any BASE canopy gets older, the porosity of the fabric increases, which can lead to a decrease in the performance in the low speed flight regime and flare. For this reason, we have continued to use a ZP leading edge on PEAK. This modification was computer designed, extensively tested, and the results are confirming dramatic reduction of the ageing effect of the canopies, while still keeping the pack volume low.

This longer leading edge that features a new 3D shape, gives the canopy fantastic all-round performance. Great glide is combined with fun flying, giving you a canopy that is a real pleasure to use, not just a way of getting to the ground.

The response to toggle input is like no other BASE canopy, flying like it’s a much smaller wing. PEAK is agile in flight, offering the same predictable performance in deep brakes for sinking as it does if you choose to swoop.

Our priority on building PEAK was to offer incredible flare performance, something that we’re proud to have achieved.
